Team Thömus maxon can look back on an all-round successful start to the Swiss season in the Škoda Swiss Bike Cup: Mathias Flückiger claimed a commanding victory at the Tamaro Trophy in Rivera, while Vital Albin delivered a strong fourth-place finish.
Flückiger made his decisive move early in the race. The Bernese rider took the lead on lap two and controlled the race on the technically demanding course with impressive consistency and strength all the way to the finish.
“That gives me a lot of confidence”
“I felt really good and I’m delighted to take the win today. We changed our strategy in preparation for the World Cups, and victories like this are an important step towards the first major goals of the season. That gives me a lot of confidence,” Flückiger said after the race.
Behind Finn Treudler and Fabio Püntener, who finished second and third respectively, Vital Albin secured an excellent fourth place. With a consistent ride that saw him work his way forward position by position, Albin was duly rewarded. Lars Forster, meanwhile, made a strong start but did not have his best day and also had to make a stop in the tech zone. He eventually finished 11th.
