For this year’s mega comparison test, the renowned E-MTB Magazine spared no effort: 30 E-MTBs were tested more extensively than ever before, analyzed with even stricter criteria and pushed to their absolute limits. Right in the middle of it all: our Thömus Lightrider E_MAX.
And the result makes us incredibly proud: we took home the prestigious Editors Choice Award!
Why the experts call it a “red wonder”
In a test field full of heavyweight competitors, the Lightrider E_MAX convinced the jury because we deliberately chose a completely different path. Instead of following the trend toward massive full-power E-MTBs, we focus on a purist setup: less weight, more efficiency and a riding experience that feels much closer to a classic mountain bike than to a motorized tank.
A small sneak peek into the test crew’s findings:
- Swiss precision at its core: the integrated maxon BIKEDRIVE AIR S motor is also made in Switzerland and fits perfectly into the lightweight overall concept at just 2.0 kg. It operates extremely quietly and delivers a very natural ride feel.
- The climbing specialist: uphill, the E_MAX proves to be extremely efficient and impresses with agile handling on technical climbs.
- The downhill surprise: downhill, the bike impresses across the board with remarkably confident performance and an incredible amount of riding fun. It is fast, direct and provides excellent trail feedback.
- The lightweight champion: at only 17.5 kg (in the Trail Light specification), our E_MAX was the lightest bike in the entire test field.
