Alessandra Keller delivered an impressive performance at the Cross-Country World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě and finished fifth after a strong comeback ride. Mathias Flückiger also impressed with a strong ride through the field and crossed the line in twelfth place.
After her crash in Friday’s Short Track, Keller had to start the race from the fourth row. On the fast and dusty course, the rider from Nidwalden showed a tactically smart race and worked her way forward lap by lap.
In the closing phase, Keller even joined the fight for the podium places and crossed the finish line in fifth position after a strong final sprint.
“The atmosphere along the course was once again incredible. The natural trails and technical sections here in Nové Město make this race something very special every year. I’m very satisfied with my performance today. It can continue like this,” said the Swiss rider.
The victory went to Laura Stigger (AUT), ahead of Jenny Rissveds (SWE) and Sina Frei (SUI).
Flückiger just outside the top 10
Mathias Flückiger also showed a strong performance in the men’s race. After starting from the back regions of the field, the rider from Bern quickly worked his way forward and impressed with a high pace on the technically demanding sections.
A defect in the first half of the race cost him additional time and probably prevented an even better result. Nevertheless, Flückiger classified a strong twelfth after a committed ride.
“I had a very good feeling and probably rode one of my best races here in Nové Město. After the hard end of the season, this result is very positive for Legand, as my rib injuries are almost healed,” said Flückiger after the race.
For Lars Forster, the result was 22nd place. The Eastern Swiss rider struggled with heavy legs. Vital Albin initially also rode among the first chasers, but was pushed back by a defect already in the third lap and finished the race in 60th place.
The men’s race was won by Tom Pidcock (GBR), ahead of Luca Martin (FRA) and Filippo Colombo (SUI).
